Though the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has enforced stricter restrictions in bio-bubbles to protect players from COVID-19, the coronavirus has busted the bubble.
Lately, two players from Kolkata Knight Riders tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the IPL management to postpone the upcoming match between KKR and RCB.
Match 30 of IPL 2021 between KKR and RCB, scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad today, has been postponed to a later date.
“Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier were found to be positive in the third round of testing in the last four days. All other team members have tested negative for COVID -19.
“Both the players have isolated themselves from the rest of the squad. The medical team is in continuous touch with the duo and is monitoring their health. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders have now moved towards a daily testing routine to identify any other possible cases and treat them at the earliest,” said IPL in a statement.
The entire KKR squad and their support staff are now in isolation in their team hotel.
Even though the IPL organizers are striving very hard to continue the ongoing tournament unabated in a bubble, five players have already left the event midway as India grapples with the deadliest second wave.
Ravichandran Ashwin (DC), Liam Livingstone (RR), Andrew Tye (RR), Kane Richardson (RCB), and Adam Zampa (RCB) are the players who have exited IPL 2021 so far.
